With ratification, a new beginning

Dear members of the MIT community,

As you may have heard, the members of MIT’s Graduate Student Union have voted to ratify the contract their leaders agreed to earlier this month.

I want to express my appreciation to everyone who played a role in achieving this agreement. The negotiations were thoughtful, serious and collaborative, laying a foundation of good faith and mutual respect for the future.

In negotiating this contract, in concert with a faculty advisory committee, we sought to be responsive to our graduate students without jeopardizing our research and educational enterprise or the interests of other members of our community. I believe we struck a good balance and that this contract will serve the Institute well. I look forward to moving ahead with a sense of new beginnings.
