July 24 bargaining update

After a two month pause, the MIT bargaining team was pleased to resume the negotiations with the GSU for the 23rd session.

At the meeting, MIT reiterated its commitment to bargaining in good faith to finalize a contract that supports the needs of all of our graduate students, balances the needs of those outside the bargaining unit, and advances the mission and values of the Institute.

The bargaining teams reviewed the various areas to date where MIT and the GSU continue to disagree.

Despite these differences, MIT remains committed to continuing productive discussions and is focused on finalizing a contract with the GSU as quickly and efficiently as possible. Further delays in achieving an agreement prevent bargaining unit members from enjoying the immediate benefits from the positive outcomes included in MIT’s proposals, including an immediate increase in salaries and other benefits such as dental and vision coverage and extended financial support for graduate students with children and international students.
